لتصميم إبتسامة أصول موضوعية يجب الإنتباه إليها عند اي اجراء تجميلي يقوم به طبيب الاسنان .
ان طبيب الاسنان يستطيع أن يحلل الميزات و النقاط البسيطة في الإبتسامة بصورة دقيقة في ذهنه و يستطيع أن يقول لماذا تبدو هذه الإبتسامة عادية أو رائعة و الأهم من هذا أنه يستطيع أن يميز بصورة دقيقة أي شيء يمكن أن يزيد من جمالية الإبتسامة أو ينقصها
ان غالبية المرضى الذين يراجعون طبيب الأسنان للاستشارة حول ابتسامتهم ، يسألون سؤالات متشابهة حول جمالية الاسنان و قليلون هم من يسألون عن الإبتسامة. و لكي تكون الامور اكثر وضوحا لابد من ان نتعرف على عناصر تصميم الإبتسامة:
1-الفراغ او الكوّة القاطعة
